GainesvillePopulation: 15,538
Gainesville is approximately at the geographic center of County on Interstate 35 about 67 miles north of Dallas. The town began as the Peters Colony in 1841 under the Republic of Texas. Early settlers battled Indians, weather and themselves. Civil war, railroads, circuses, military camp and oil fields bring a colorful past to this area with a prosperous outlook for future growth and success.
